“a challenge to a nation living in the shadow of empire”
coming soon
we call on all critical thinkers who are open to new ideas that can shape political and social debate in Cymru and beyond, to join us at our next Reading Room event in Canopi, Caerdydd.
a Pwnc Llosg Reading Room is a space to interact with challenging topics and get closer to divergent ideas and perspectives.
it brings the knowledge of published Pluto Press authors to Cardiff, and provides a framework to tap into the wealth of knowledge and experience in the room, to explore the topic from a local context.
we are not interested in cyclical dialogues and back-patting
we encourage discovery through points of contention
we are not interested in being taught or lectured at
we give space to explore and interrogate
in addition to Reading Room events, we co-investigate on a series of interwoven action research projects, all of which feed into the iterative development of the Pwnc Llosg Reading Room.
“Imagining a better world is hard work. If we can’t see a better world then we can’t talk about it and more importantly how to get there.” - Amira Hayat and Nirushan Sudarsan, 2023

we do this by championing critical thinkers across Cymru
Who we are
the people of Pwnc Llosg are a collective of Cymru-based cultural activists motivated by critical debate and positive change.
as a collective we want to reimagine the possibilities for our future, alongside our communities, in order to uncover together how we might realise the futures we want.
we come from different backgrounds, interests, work and practices.
our work as individuals outside of Pwnc Llosg spans across politics, architecture, visual arts, poetry, theatre, podcasting, music, law and more.
we are motivated by the opportunities opening up through the convergence of our lived experiences, and the insights we gain through our other ventures.
our cyfeillion
our cyfeillion are friends who we work with, or who collaborate with us.
we make Reading Room events happen by working alongside Pluto Press, The Canopi, and Cardiff University, these cyfeillion connect us with people, resources and topics.
in addition, we exchange learning with and seek training from a number of cyfeillion, these are Cwmni Bro Ffestiniog, Rekindle (Manchester), Opus (Sheffield) School of Machines (Berlin), Rural Studio (Alabama), and Dark Matter Labs (all over).
our projects would not be possible without our host organization, Arts Active Trust, and the experimental arts-led learning model developed by scholar activists Stephanie Bolt and Eric Lesdema, from which the very first iteration of a Pwnc Llosg Reading Room emerged.
